Our fabulous accommodation at Anaconda Lodge in Puerto Maldonado.
Fun at the Butterfly Farm.
The best of the rest - a boat ride up the river, sitting by the pool, hanging out in the plaza and dining on delicious Thai food courtesy of Wadee at the Anaconda Lodge.

All in all - a great family-friendly destination point.

sometimes things don't go according to plan

Despite your best efforts, sometimes things just don't go according to plan.  That's life, right?  It happens if you are travelling or just going about your business at home - you can't control everything, all of the time.

As much as we know this, this week really emphasised this point for us.  Our van, despite all of our efforts, and a number of mechanics and quick fixes on the road, did not start.

So we got her towed back to Cusco where she is safely in the hands of someone who seems to know what they are doing.  Hopefully!  So we have been sitting in Cusco for the last few days, catching up with old friends and making new ones and preparing to say goodbye to Cusco, all being well, tomorrow.

Where we head next, we are not sure.  Our budget was blown through the window thanks to the work needed to be done but we learnt a long time ago to just work with it.  So we are planning our next destination where we can sit down for a few months and catch up on the bills which we seem to have acquired recently.

It's all good though - we are still smiling and grateful for our own health and happiness and above all freedom, which allows us to do what we do.

Pisac in summary

We enjoyed hanging out in Pisac and while we didn't explore the ruins which the town is famed for, we did spend time wandering the markets, enjoying local coffee and food, going swimming and preparing ourselves for the next leg of our adventure.

Our recommendations:
Percy's Family Home:  Percy's Family Home provided us with a home away from home and was central to everything we needed to do in Pisac.  Family friendly, safe and clean, it was everything we could ask for and more.
Inka Royal:  While we didn't stay at the Inka Royal, we did visit it most days to go for a swim or take the kids for a paddle on the lake.  And as the pool is covered, it was even a great place to visit on a rainy day.
Ulrike's Garden Cafe:  If you are looking for a place which serves a great breakfast, lunch and dinner then Ulrike's is the place, especially if you have kids as they have a playroom of sorts which helps occupy them while you eat.
The best of the rest:  Definitely spend some time checking out other eateries, the kids also loved the Blue Llama for its colourful decor and banana bread.  Hit the markets to get those last minute souvenirs and just wander around the town to get a feel for what Pisac has to offer.

Percy's family home, Pisac

Well I must admit we have had a lovely time hanging out in Pisac especially as we had the pleasure of staying at Percy's Family Home while we were here.

February was a pretty busy month for us as we ended our 12 month lease on the hostel and moved out of our apartment in Cusco, all within a couple of weeks of each other.  So all I can say is thank goodness for Percy and his hideaway accommodation.  I am not sure how well I would've handled all of it otherwise.

Percy's Family Home accommodation is set off from the street - actually if you didn't know where it was, you wouldn't even know it was there.  It is a small complex, which at the centre, lies an immaculate garden space - a perfect place to sit and while away the afternoon.

Percy's Family Home is just that - a space for families, couples and individuals to relax and unwind and it's not too large so we aren't so fearful of disturbing anyone with our "noise".  Percy's Family Home currently has 3 rooms available at present, although Percy is looking to add two more later this month to bring the grand total to 5.  Currently on offer are a family room for 4, a double room and a single room.

And in terms of location, it doesn't get much better.  Percy's Family Home is just a hop, skip and a jump from the central Plaza, the markets and the restaurants.  And of course we can't forget the swimming pool which is only a 2 sole mototaxi ride away; I think we have been 4 times in the past week and are planning on going back tomorrow for an early morning swim before we pack the van and head off to our next destination.

So if you are heading to Pisac, contact Percy to check on availability.  While the kitchen and bathroom areas are shared by those in the complex, the clean and spacious rooms more than make up for it.
