My shopping lists seem haphazard - but child friendly headphones, notebooks and new toothbrushes are just some of the things you end up needing when you have kids.
Cusco, Peru is our first destination. We will depart from Swift Current, Saskatchewan by car, head to Regina to catch a connecting flight to Toronto. From there we head to Lima and then catch our final flight to Cusco where hopefully somone will be waiting for us with a sign labelled "Tupy Family". If not, that will be a whole other blog post in itself.
Some think us mad, some think us brave - travelling with kids is challenging but it has it's own rewards.
My daughter would prefer to go to Disneyland or Hollywood and my son packs his notepad and crayons everyday to go to the mountains. Needless to say when you have a 3 year old it is best not to start the countdown too long in advance as 40 days for them can seem like a lifetime.
Travelling with kids is not new to our family - we have travelled from Australia-China-Canada with stints to America and Thailand.
The Girl Guides had it right - be prepared - that is the best advice I can offer.
Over the past few weeks (and months) I have slowly been crossing things off the to-do list. Now that we are getting closer to our date of departure, I can start to relax as there is not much more I can do in preparation for us leaving.
As far as our travel in Peru is concerned, we have two months accommodation booked at the Hospedaje Del Carmen and we have reserved our trip to Machu Picchu (30 and 31 July). The rest we will play by ear.
With kids, in reality, you can only plan so much - "the best laid plans..." and all that!
We have signed Little Miss 8 up to a home school program and have commenced informal study to get her used to the system. She doesn't like school at the best of times so that will be very interesting.
Oh well...best get back to the tidying up - it won't do itself (unfortunately).
